High School Curricular Requirements

Melamed Academy respects its diverse student body by offering a variety of curricular tracks, customizable for every individual student. All tracks fulfill the State of New Jersey Minimum Graduation Requirements. During a meeting with the Guidance Counselor, students select a curricular track that best meets their abilities and career goals. * These curricular outlines are samples; students can customize their own course outline. * A student can choose to take only certain college credit courses; it is not necessary to take all or none.

High School Torah Studies

Melamed Academy respects its diverse student body by offering a variety of Torah Studies curricular tracks, customizable for every individual student. All tracks include courses for high school credit, with opportunities for college credit, as well. It is not necessary to have textual skills in order to succeed; learning aids are provided. During a meeting with the Guidance Counselor, students select a curricular track that best meets their abilities and career goals. * These curricular outlines are samples; students can customize their own course outline. * A student can choose to take only certain college credit courses; it is not necessary to take all or none.

English Language Arts - 20 Credits

Twenty credits (8 Semesters) of English Language Arts aligned to State Core Curriculum Content Standards.

Mathematics - 15 Credits

Fifteen credits including Algebra I and Geometry (or the content equivalent), and a third year of math that builds on the concepts and skills of Algebra and Geometry, and prepares students for 21st Century careers.

Science - 15 Credits

Fifteen credits including at least five credits in laboratory biology/life science or the content equivalent, an additional laboratory/inquiry based science course including chemistry, environmental science, or physics, and a third laboratory/inquiry-based science course.

Social Studies -15 Credits

Fifteen credits including two years of US History, History of the State of New Jersey, History of African Americans, Holocaust & Genocides. Including five credits in World History, and the integration of Civics, Economics, Geography, and global content in all course offerings.

Financial, Economic, Business, and Entrepreneurial Literacy

One semester course which provides students with financial knowledge.

Health, Safety, and Physical Education - 3.75 Credits Yearly

Every year of high school, a student must study Health, Safety, and Physical Education for 150 minutes per week.

Visual and Performing Arts - 5 Credits

Two semesters of visual art, including drawing, sculpting, painting, or computer art - or music, band, drama.

World Languages - 5 Credits or Proficiency

Students must study a world language for two semesters or pass a proficiency exam.

Technological Literacy - 21st Century Skills

Consistent with the Core Curriculum Content Standards, integrated throughout the curriculum. Students must learn how to integrate technological tools, hardware, software, internet, and devices into their workflow - to prepare for 21st Century professions.

21st Century Life and Careers/Career-Technical Education - 5 Credits

Students must study a technological or professional skill for two semesters. This includes Career Preparation overview courses that familiarize the student with career fields and opportunities.

Total Credits for Graduation = 120

After fulfilling the course credit requirements, students may fulfill the remaining credits with Elective courses.
